Welcome to the Tropical United States

Hawaiian Flowers

When you think of beach, does your mind wander to the tropical waters of the Caribbean, Tahiti or Fiji?  While those all are exotic destinations, you can get a taste of it by going tropical in the United States.

Hawaii, immediately comes to mind when thinking tropical.  Each island offers something different and is a great choice.  There is plenty of sun, great climate, beautiful beaches, surfing, snorkeling and fun activities.  Go to the top of a volcano and watch the sunrise and then bike down, flumin da’ ditch, stargazing, fly over an active volcano or simply grab a good book and lounge on the beach.

Another one of my favorites is Florida, and no not laying on a man made beach at Walt Disney World.  Yes, that can be fun too, but there is so much more.  Captiva and Sanibel Islands offer some local flavor, little out of the way cafe’s that serve the freshest seafood, and water sports.  If you can drag yourself up early on vacation, it is a great spot to walk the beach early and hunt for shells, there are plenty and the beaches are still quiet.

On the opposite coast on the Atlantic, leave the city of Miami behind and drive to the Florida Keys.  If you are feeling adventurous and have a motorcycle license, rent a bike in Miami and hit the open road, the views are incredible.  The ride is one of the top ten favorite motorcycle rides in the United States.  There are some great dive restaurants along the way, stop and enjoy again some fabulous seafood.  Key West is a fun destination, and a great getaway for just the adults.  There is a lot of nightlife, bars, restaurants, cafe’s and shopping, you can even do a little wine tasting.

Celebrating an anniversary, milestone birthday, honeymoon or a romantic getaway from the kids?  There is a private island where you truly can escape and feel as though you are in your own private oasis.  Go fishing during the day and have the chef cook your catch for dinner that night, find a hammock in a little alcove over the water and read the afternoon away.  Dine every night right on the beach while feeding the Key Deer. They will eat rose petals right out of your hand, it is really cool. You can watch the sun sink into the sea enjoying a nice drink around the fire pit, it is a nightly ritual and is pure heaven.
