The sights, sounds, smells of St. Lucia are of an island full of life.  The peaks of the Pitons rise above the turquoise Caribbean Sea.  The island is mountainous and offers more than just laying on the beach.  St. Lucia is the perfect destination for those wanting romance and to rest, relax, rejuvenate.

There are plenty of options for water sports on St. Lucia.  There are some spots for scuba diving and sailing.

Diving:

St. Lucia offers scuba diving for beginners to the advanced diver.

  • The Blue Hole of Anse L’ivrogne:  This spot is rarely visited, it suffered severe storm damage several years ago and the coral is slowly recovering.  If you are up for an adventure it is an exciting deep dive.
  • Piton Wall:  Located at the base of Petit Piton, the wall drops dramatically hundred of feet below the sea.  The walls are covered with Sea Whips, soft corals and feather duster worms.  This dive is extremely colorful.
  • Barrell of Beef:  The Rock ~ a small island outside of the Rodney Bay Marina.  The dive has underwater trenches and valleys where you can view lobsters, triggerfish and Barracuda.

If you aren’t happy laying on the beach every day and are looking for other options, you will find them on St. Lucia.  You can hike in the rainforest, ride ATV’s off on a nature trail.  There are mountain bike trails and mountains to climb.  Segway tours will take you out on nature trails and along the beach.  Looking for a real adventure, Zip the Pitons, with 8 cables you can fly through the forest.

Love horseback riding, here you can ride through the rainforest, cross the white sand and ride into the warm Caribbean waters trotting through the crystal clear waters.  You can enjoy a sunset evening cruise, savor delectable appetizers and sip exotic cocktails.

Do you enjoy deep sea fishing?  You can join a deep sea fishing trip where you can fish for Blue Marlin, Wahoo and Tuna.  If food is more your style and more specifically CHOCOLATE!!, ride aboard a luxury catamaran to a local historic cocoa estate where you can create your own yummy chocolate from scratch and enjoy a gourmet lunch.

Rodney Bay  Village has numerous restaurants along with a notorious marina.  There are options for accommodations from the boutique properties, to luxury hotels and several all-inclusive resorts.

Culinary ~

The chefs in St. Lucia depend heavily on the spices of Creole style cuisine.  Presentation and attention to detail are very important.  Seafood is abundant and you can dine on tuna, mahi mahi and snapper.  The National specialties of St. Lucia include conch, green figs, salt fish and plantains.

Fish Fry’s are inexpensive alternatives to restaurant dining on the island.  The Friday nigh fish fry at Gros Islet is one big street party.  Here you can listen to Island DJ’s, watch local performers while dining on BBQ foods and fish.

Rum is a popular alcohol on the island and St. Lucia has its own distillery.  Piton is a local beer, perfect on a warm day.  Want to drink like a local?  Order yourself a “Shandy”.  I first had one in England and loved it, found on St. Lucia in a bottle, it is beer mixed with ginger ale, lemon or sorrel.  The perfect refreshing drink while basking in the sun of St. Lucia.
