Australia’s Bondi Beach eatery sails into Surf City, CA.
Twenty years ago Hurricane’s opened an iconic restaurant in the Bondi beach area and have opened other restaurants across Australia. Now, they are sailing into Huntington Beach, California with their first U.S. restaurant, Bondi Grill House.
The trendy, chic restaurant opened a few short weeks ago at the Bella Terra shopping area and I think they will be there for a very long time.
The cuisine has Australian and South African influences with a bit of an Asian flair. You will find everything from a bit of seafood to ribs, burgers, chicken and steak along with unique items known only to Bondi Grill House.
I couldn’t wait to give it a try, so grabbed some friends, made a reservation for a busy Friday night and off we went. Our server was friendly, helpful, attentive and knew the menu well. She offered suggestions and was able to explain the sauces, and different cuts on the ribs.
As soon as we were seated, the chef sent a sample of his Boerwors with the spicy Peri Peri sauce. What are Boerwors? Well, it is a housemade sausage, that was so different from anything we have had and the spicy sauce was the perfect accompaniment.
The Bondisaurus ribs are a unique cut to the restaurant and are a must if you are a rib connoisseur. I hate to admit it, but I don’t eat ribs, shocking I know. But there is something about gnawing food off a bone, that just creeps me out.
The ooohing and ahhhing over the ribs was making me hungry, so I had them pull me off a bite and I can understand what all the fuss was about. They were perfectly cooked, the sauce mopped on them was fabulous and at the end of the meal no to go bag was needed. They had been devoured.
The chicken with Peri Peri sauce was juicy and the spicy sauce was like nothing I have had, incredible. The burgers and Calamari were also gobbled down.
We ordered the Sticky Date Pudding, and it is heaven on a plate. It is a moist cake that melts in your mouth with soft pieces of date and a sticky caramel sauce.
There are so many items on the menu that I can’t wait to try so we will be back. Before leaving the restaurant, one of the owner’s stopped by the table to chat. He wanted to make sure our meal and service were good and that is impressive.
If you happen to be heading to Surf City for summer vacation or you simply live in the area, you have to go.
Welcome to Orange County, CA and Huntington Beach Bondi Grill House, we are glad you are here.
